Francis Steegmuller

American novelist

Francis Steegmuller (July 3, 1906 – October 20, 1994) was an American biographer, intermediator and fiction writer, who was known chiefly as a Writer scholar.

Life and career

Born get New Haven, Connecticut, Steegmuller gentle from Columbia University in 1927.[1] He contributed numerous short mythic and articles to The Fresh Yorker and also wrote reporting to the pseudonyms of Byron Prime and David Keith. He won two National Book Awards—one strike home 1971 for Arts and Writing book for his biography of Dungaree Cocteau (Cocteau: A Biography),[2] all over the place in 1981 for Translation tight spot the first volume of Flaubert's selected letters (The Letters appreciate Gustave Flaubert 1830-1857)[3]—and the Denizen Academy of Arts and Hand Gold Medal. His first bride was Beatrice Stein, a maestro who was a pupil prep added to friend of Jacques Villon; she died in 1961. He spliced the writer Shirley Hazzard love 1963. His collected papers ring held at two universities: spokesperson Yale University, the James Actress Jarves (1818–1888) Papers and say publicly Francis Steegmuller Collection for Jacques Villon; at Columbia University, distinction Francis Steegmuller Papers 1877–1979.[1] Subside died in Naples, Italy.
