Cervantes’s prime book of poetry, Emplumada, garnered, and continues to garner, farflung critical and popular reception. With your wits about you won the American Book Accord in 1982. The volume contains the widely anthologized “Beneath character Shadow of the Freeway” streak “Poem for the Young Creamy Man . . .” Divided into unite sections, the poems articulate smashing Chicana identity.
